Blood save lives

I was at work yesterday morning while i came across a flyer which so volunteers are distributing at pasir ris mrt station.

it's promoting a blood donation drive that is happening nearby.

i took that flyer....and pondered for a while.

i got this urge to give blood...not just a little urge but my gut feeling tells me that i must donate this time round.

i lost my virginity....again!

on previous occasions....

i was underweight when i was back in poly yr 1 and i was rejected. =(

i was on medication 2 weeks ago as i was sick when i was in NTU last year and i was rejected. =(

and this time round, i was neither underweight nor sick...

and the angel on my left shoulder is calling out to me to go donate blood...

angel kenny: hey...brother, you are healthy...go donate some blood to save lives.
devil kenny: fuck you angel...he is busy and at work...leave him alone....
angel kenny: fuck you right back...iilii (shows the middle finger)
devil kenny: hey kenny... don't listen to the angel, he will get your ass burned.

but my gut feeling is so strong and i just followed my heart to want to donate blood that i showed iilii to devil and swept him off my right shoulder.

i asked for permission from my manager and he took awhile to reply actually...i thought that i would not have the chance as the blood donation drive is from 11 to 5pm only... my work time.

then while i was in the toilet shitting...my manager replied me....he said "ok, go ahead"...and all the shit just came out so smoothly...

GOOD TIMING ERIC!

hahaha

i was ferried by a mercedez leh....to a buddhist temple nearby. never knew blood donation still will get chauffered by mercedez. but it belongs to a volunteer lah.

they asked me to fill up a form and i was quite amused by the questions they asked...

"have you had sex with more than one partner?"

"have you been paid cash or in kind to have sex with anyone?"

"have you had sex with another male?"

heh heh....all of the above is a mystery for all of you....no answers. =P

the blood donating area.

after i had registered, i have to be examined by a doctor...

and then i had to take a blood test.

the nurse poked my finger with a needle and took a straw like thing to draw my blood....totally painless...

and then she dripped 2 drops of my blood into a beaker filled with dunno what liquid.

my blood sank like titanic into the bottom of the beaker.

it means that i have enough iron in my blood.... i am strong.

then after 20 mins of waiting...it's my turn to be on the bed.

i was asked to pump the stress ball so that my vains can "pop" out. i pumped so hard it nearly burst. hehe...

the nurse took a few stuff over to my bed...some testtubes...needles and also the blood packets...

testtubes are used to draw some of my bloods to be tested if it is safe....confirm safe one lah...

needles to inject my arm with a lil anesthetic.

3 blood packets...

i saw those and i was like thinking "nabeh....really must draw so much blood meh

i was injected with anesthetic because the nurse said the needle for drawing blood is quite thick.

look like mosquito bite.

poking me with the thick needle....i wouldn't want to think that this needle will break in my arm man.

overall...i would rate the process as extremely pain...less. 0% pain. ok maybe 1% when they inject the anesthetic....irony right? small needle, pain...like ant bite. huge needle...painless.

once the huge needle is injected, blood just flowed through the tubes and into one of the blood packets. it took about 3 mins to fill that much.

i was bored so i took more pictures of the huge ass needle...

i was pretty relaxed for the first 5 mins...

until i check my blood packet....

5 mins and only these much blood....knn....

and i quickly pump the stress ball in my hand....i still got 2 and a half packet to fill leh....like tat take how long....???

i pump until my hand soften...i think people must have thought i siao one.

about 10 mins later....1 full bag....2 more to go, i thought to myself.

and the nurse came over....and stopped my bleeding...i thought she wanna change the tubing to another bag but she plugged my needle out...

eh... finish liao ah i asked...

she say yah loh. how much blood you wanna give?

3 packets lah...

you siao ah...3 packets later you end up in hospital we have to give blood back to you.

LOL....

chey....only 1 packet per person. each donor will only give abt 300 to 450ml of blood depending on weight. i gave 450ml.

and in singapore....everyday, the hospitals use up 200 packets a day. the temple targets to collect 200 packet for the day within 6 hrs....wah liao....no wonder blood bank shortage of blood all the time.

then i told the nurse i want the green bandage with dinosaur one...

and she wrap up my hand nice nice for me.

they asked me to go to a resting lounge with snacks and water...

i just sat there and admire my bandage.

then a volunteer came over and ask...

"you want water"

"no"

"you want biscuits"

"no"

"then what do you want"

"i want to go home"

hahaha....seriously...like a kid lah.

i actually meant i want to go back to work but i said home. hahaha

then i went off and back to work.

it felt so good to give blood...i think more singaporeans shld step out when we have the chance.

get out of our comfort zones and realise and learn something new. that is how we become stronger as a person in character and mentality.

this post is not to show off that i had donated blood...i believe in doing good deeds and keeping it to myself.

this post is more like sharing my experiences in a humourous way to encourage people to step out and save lives by donating blood.

suay suay to say....you will never know if you will be the next in line to receive blood that has been donated.

blood cannot be artificially produced....it can only be from us...

so if you have a chance. dun hesitate. go for it.

cheers to all blood donors.
